Yeovil Town Football Club has responded to fans after they revealed a new club badge and rebranding that will come into play next season. There had been a consultancy with the fanbase about a new badge, after the current design was deemed too elaborate and unwieldy when it is used across merchandise and sponsorship.

A new design was sought and fans were given the opportunity to share their thoughts on what it would look like and what elements were needed to be the identity of the football club, who play in National League South, the sixth tier of the English footballing pyramid.

Dan Howell, media officer for Yeovil Town, has spoken exclusively to Somerset’s Alive! about the rebrand after supporters had mixed views following its unveiling on Tuesday.

While there have been some dissenting voices, Dan has urged fans to focus their energies on The Glovers’ promotion push, as the team looks to capitalise on its 10 point lead at the top of the table, in the race for a place in the National League.

Dan said ahead of Yeovil Town’s game at home to Slough Town: “As a football club we understand that change can be daunting for many people but we do hope that once things have settled down that we are trying to enhance our identity in a different way to what it has been.

“It was the town council crest before so we wanted a way of creating our own identity, which is recognisable to Yeovil Town supporters.”

After the new design was shared on social media, there were a number of fans who were not so receptive to the change, Dan said that he sympathises that it can be difficult for some to accept such a drastic rebranding.

Dan continued: “I can understand the blacklash on it all as it has been around for a very long time and as a supporter, I understand that it can be quite daunting but once things have settled down it will be a good thing and hopefully everyone will be understanding of it and the reasons behind it.”

For now though, Dan said that he hopes supporters will continue to get behind the Green and Whites and help push them to their ultimate goal this season.

Dan added: “There’s still time between now and when the badge comes into play and there is promotion up for grabs and we want fans to still support the team. There are some fantastic games to come and we have a fantastic opportunity to get promoted and hope that this will continue to be a good time for the club.”

In a statement shared on Yeovil Town’s website, the details of why the changes have been made were explained. The statement reads: “The gloves hold a special place in the hearts of Yeovil Town fans, earning us the affectionate nickname ‘The Glovers.’ This moniker not only reflects our town’s heritage but also embodies the spirit of teamwork, unity, and determination that defines our club.”

The statement continued: “At the heart of the new badge lies a tribute to the club’s founding year, 1895, encapsulating the traditional values of football that have guided Yeovil Town throughout its illustrious history. This inclusion serves as a proud reminder of the club’s enduring legacy in the world of football, honouring the pioneering spirit of its founders and the dedication of all those who have contributed to its success.

“In designing our new badge, we sought to capture the essence of both our footballing tradition and our town’s proud history. The gloves and the ball serve as a powerful symbol of our identity, uniting past and present in a dynamic emblem that resonates with supporters young and old.”

why change something when it is brilliant in the first place badge should not have been changed until fan base should have had a vote to approve it or not
